Our first big hurdle was making sure that our switches and sockets met British Standards, So, work began to ensure the products gained approval.
When British Standards were achieved, Switch to Wood started by making 40-50 products using just Oak and Ash with black and white insert options. Today, we manufacture 1000's of products with different insert options, decorative rockers and wood finishes giving our customers a huge amount of choice.
Our story
Over 30 Years ago Switch to Wood developed from a very simple idea: can we produce
a more sustainable, more beautiful product to replace the millions of white plastic
switches and sockets installed in people's homes every year.

SO, WE SET ABOUT CREATING IT
BEAUTIFULLY SUSTAINABLE
The switches and sockets we make have always been manufactured by hand. Of course, we have evolved with the times and now also use a variety of machines to assist us in manufacturing our extensive lines of products. But, everything we do has a skilled craftsman overseeing, refining and finishing to ensure that the finished products are always up to our impeccable standards.
We have always used Oak and Ash. The timber's hard, fibrous nature provides a solid structure for the sockets and switches. And, because sustainability has always been at the heart of Switch to Wood, the majority of our timber is FSC registered. As a result, we know that our timber is reliably sourced, harvested and replanted in a renewable, sustainable way that doesn't harm the woodland from which it is taken.
This makes our Classic Wood range an environmentally friendly option for switches and sockets. We have moved with the times incorporating a variety of USB options.

BAKELITE FOR A MODERN CLASSIC
We developed our Bakelite range in 2015 - having used another manufacturers range, we wanted a more
representative range that was more in line with the classic Lincoln Crabtree range. So, we started looking into
development, and once again went to British Standards for approval using traditional Bakelite materials.
